ATLANTA -- Gerald Laird drove in two runs with two hits, including a tiebreaking single in the eighth, and the Atlanta Braves beat Colorado 3-2 on Friday night after the Rockies lost third baseman Nolan Arenado to a broken finger. Arenado left the game in the second inning after fracturing his left middle finger on a head-first slide into second base. Michael Cuddyer hit a home run for Colorado. Ramiro Pena, who replaced third baseman Chris Johnson in the third inning, led off the eighth with a double to the centerfield wall off Adam Ottavino (0-1). After Andrelton Simmons and Dan Uggla struck out, Laird lined the single to left field and advanced to second when Corey Dickersons throw bounced past catcher Jordan Pacheco. David Carpenter (4-0) pitched a scoreless eighth and Craig Kimbrel struck out the side in the ninth for his 13th save. The Rockies did not immediately say if Arenado will be placed on the disabled list. Arenado led off the second with a double to left field. Left fielder Justin Uptons throw was caught by Uggla, who flipped the ball to shortstop Andrelton Simmons at second base. Simmons kept the glove down as Arenado slid past the bag. Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez asked for a review as replays indicated Simmons might have tagged Arenados foot off the bag. The play stood following the review of 3 minutes, 48 seconds. Arenado grabbed his hand following the slide but remained in the game to score from third on Pachecos groundout. Charlie Culberson replaced Arenado at third base in the bottom of the inning. The loss of Arenado would be a blow to the Rockies. Arenado is hitting .305 with six homers and 28 RBIs. His 28-game hitting streak from April 9 to May 8 is the longest in the National League this season. The Braves also had a switch at third base. Pena replaced Johnson after Johnsons strikeout to lead off the second. The Braves did not say why Johnson left the game. Uggla walked and scored on Lairds double in the second. The Braves took a 2-1 lead in the third. B.J. Upton scored from third base on Justin Uptons groundout. Cuddyers homer, his fourth, tied the game in the sixth. Gavin Floyd allowed two runs on seven hits in 6 2-3 innings for Atlanta. Jordan Lyles gave up two runs on six hits and one walk in six innings for Colorado. The Braves loaded the bases in the seventh but couldnt score. Rex Brothers gave up one-out singles to pinch-hitter Tyler Pastornicky and Jason Heyward before walking B.J. Upton. Brothers struck out Freddie Freeman. Cuddyer made a running catch in right field of Justin Uptons fly ball off Ottavino to end the inning. First base umpire Lance Barksdale called Pacheco out on a pickoff throw to first by Floyd in the seventh. The call was overturned following a review which lasted 1:30. NOTES: Javy Lopez, a catcher for Atlanta from 1992-2003, Dave Pursley, a longtime trainer with Milwaukee and Atlanta from 1962-2001, and Rabbit Maranville, a shortstop with the Boston Braves for 15 seasons, were inducted into the Braves Hall of Fame. .... I had a great look, but it just didnt go down. The Pistons have lost 12 straight, two short of the franchise record. Detroits last win came on Nov. 14, a game that both Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook missed due to injury. This time, Westbrook and Durant were healthy, and combined for 50 points, 15 rebounds and 11 assists.Serge Ibaka added 13 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks for the Thunder, while Kentavious Caldwell-Pope led Detroit with 19 points.I thought Serge was tremendous, Durant said. He was chasing down all of those rebounds and scoring when we were kicking them out to him. We had possessions where we had three great shots and three offensive rebounds. Were doing a good job of rebounding the ball.Westbrook had a chance to clinch the game with 10 seconds to play, but missed a jumper, and Brandon Jennings and Smith led a fast break.Jennings drove the ball into the lane, but was facing Ibaka and chose to dish to Smith, who had stopped outside the arc. Despite only hitting 26.4 per cent of his 3-pointers in his 98 games as a Piston, he let fly, only to see the ball bounce off the rim and out of bounds. We only needed a 2, Van Gundy said when asked about Smiths decision not to keep moving into the lane. So go to the basket or move in. Youd like to move it into a range where he shoots a higher percentage. The Thunder led 77-75 going into the fourth, then scored the first seven points of the fourth, includingg another four-shot possession.dddddddddddd. Oklahoma City ended up pulling down 86 per cent of Detroits missed shots in the second half, and 45 per cent of its own.The first half, we kind of slowed things down by putting them on the free throw line, and we let them get into a rhythm, Durant said. In the second half, we were physical without fouling. Thats a balance you have to have, and we did a better job of it.The Pistons pulled back within 93-92 on Kyle Singlers 3-pointer with 2:18 to play, but Durant answered with his first 3-pointer of the game.Andre Drummonds dunk made it a two-point game with 31 seconds left, but the Pistons couldnt take advantage of Westbrooks miss.Detroit led 55-48 at the half, bouncing back from Saturdays loss to the 76ers, when it went 0 for 11 from the floor in overtime.Things changed drastically in the third quarter, as Oklahoma City began to dominate at the rim. The Thunder had one five-shot possession that ended with Andre Robersons tip-in, and took a 70-69 lead on Westbrooks 3-pointer late in the quarter.TIP-INSTHUNDER: Forward Mitch McGary was called up before the game from the Thunders D-League affiliate in Oklahoma City, but was inactive. McGary, who has yet to make his NBA debut due to injuries, is still enormously popular in Detroit because of his college career at Michigan, where he helped lead the Wolverines to the 2013 NCAA title game.PISTONS: With Drummond and Smith both in foul trouble in the first half, Stan Van Gundy gave Jonas Jerebko 13 minutes before the intermission, a change to the normal rotation. In recent games, Jerebko has gotten most of his limited playing time in the second half. . The Pistons had 14-game losing streaks in both 1979-80 and 1993-94.UP NEXTTHUNDER: Host Milwaukee on Tuesday.PISTONS: Host Portland on Tuesday. ' ' '
